As you’ve likely seen, the first-ever Cybils were announced yesterday, to gobs of enthusiasm. Congratulations to all the winners, which included nonfiction picture book An Egg Is Quiet, by Dianna Aston and illustrated by Sylvia Long.
As the head of the nonfiction picture book category, I’d been sitting on that news for a while, waiting for it to hatch. I have new respect for chickens.
Yay for “An Egg Is Quiet,” which also should have gotten a Caldecott honor in my opinion.
You were an excellent nonfiction go-to guy, Chris. I enjoyed working on the nominating committee with you, Anastasia, Camille, and Deb.

I love AN EGG IS QUIET. The text is lovely and lyrical. I, too, think it was one of the best-illustrated children’s books of 2006. I am looking forward to reading Long’s and Aston’s next book, A SEED IS SLEEPY, which is due to be released in March.
